Argument and Advocacy Writing

Class 5-316 & 5-318 as well as the rest of the 5th graders, are finishing up their latest writing unit: The Research-Based Argument Essay.  Students chose an issue they were interested in:  (Should sharks be protected? Do video games cause violence?  Should animals be in zoos?  Are extreme sports worth the risk?)  Then they researched each side (PRO & CON) and then took a stance on the issue.  Once they decided which side they were on the students wrote an opinion essay on their issue.  It was a wonderful unit and the students were engaged and enjoyed discussing their issues with each other.
